Owning Parakeets
Birds are very intelligent animals, they can sing, dance and play with you when given the right kind of attention. They are also sensitive creatures that will recognize patterns in your behavior, often learning to anticipate habits or tendencies -sometimes before you notice them yourself! They are also great for watching as they play; parakeets have a routine of their own that can be seen when healthy including preening their feathers, being alert and active during the day, socializing, usually a mid-day nap or two and foraging will often lead their daily lives. They are a naturally sociable species and can in some cases establish a pecking order (or be territorial of their belongings towards other budgies) but with adjustments to their environment or enclosure it isn't usually a major issue. Toys, along with maintaining their supply of fresh water and food should always be accounted for as well as a clean space and suitable ventilation is also key must-haves for keeping birds. During the day they need appropriate lighting and stimulation and for bed time they can have a cage cover and quiet time. Most parakeets enjoy having your attention and being talked to in a calm and gentle tone. With a safe space to fly and perch, parakeets will benefit from free flight time, as do many caged birds. You're setting a good goal if you work towards providing free flight time on a daily basis.
Adopting Parakeets
They're many beautiful colors and patterns to choose from ranging from pure white to rainbow! Finding a bird that has an appearance to your liking is a good place to start the adoption process. if you plan on handling your new bird(s), try to find one that's already started to become tame from a reputable breeder that matches your values of birds, it will make the process of bonding with your bird much more enjoyable. Some budgies will learn to talk or make sounds you love, it depends on the personality of the bird itself and sometimes how he or she has been nurtured during upbringing. Spending ample time close to or holding your budgie and using a gentle voice will help teach your bird to speak.
